Our top 10 tips for attending your first ever music concert

Concerts are the most amazing fun. Nothing beats dancing, singing along and feeling those good vibes with your mates as your favourite band or artist delivers an incredible performance live on stage. Not to mention the buzz you feel for days and sometimes weeks afterwards.

To make sure you have as much fun as possible and keep safe we've put together our top 10 tips for attending your first ever music event in Perth.

1. Secure and guard your tickets

You've seen that your favourite band is coming to Perth and you can't wait to get tickets! Firstly make sure you only buy your tickets through the authorised ticket seller for the event. Buying tickets from an unofficial reseller will not guarantee your ticket is valid for entry into the event and could result in a sad and disappointing experience on the night. 

Once you've successfully bought your tickets through the authorised ticket seller put them in a safe place where they won't get damaged. If you bought E-tickets file them away in your inbox so you can easily find them later. There's usually a fair bit of time between when you buy your tickets and when you attend the music event; make sure a few weeks before the event you locate your tickets and keep them safe until the day of the music event. 

2. Practise your singing and dancing 

Crank the music and get pumped up for your first ever Perth music concert; look up the artist's new albums or songs and be sure to play them on repeat so you know the words and can singalong on the night. Don't forget to also practise your dance moves! 

3. Make sure your phone is charged 

No doubt you will be relying on your phone a lot throughout the night, whether it's texting your friends to meet up, ordering an uber or taking some snaps of you and your mates having a great time in the mosh. To avoid any issues make sure your phone is well charged.

You might also want to make sure there's plenty of memory left on your phone and clear out space if you need to. There's nothing worse than running out of memory just as your favourite song plays and you have to try and make space on your phone in the middle of the mosh pit. 

4. Find out when, where and how to get there

Make sure you triple check the date, time and venue of the concert. Also look up how you're going to get there and get home safely. Decide if you want to get there early to see any of the pre-show bands. Most music concerts in Perth will have two times printed on the tickets; doors and show time. If you want to secure a good spot up the front or see any of the pre-show bands get there early close to the doors time. The concert venue should have transport and parking information on their website, be sure to check out their event page for important information. 

5. Dress comfortably  

Plan your outfit ahead of time. Wear something you feel good and comfortable in, it can make a big difference to how much you enjoy yourself throughout the night. If you're in the general admission area you will likely get sweaty and move around a lot, opt for light clothing so you don't overheat and some sneakers to protect your feet. Leave the high heels at home! 

6. What not to bring 

Make sure you only bring a small bag with you, A4 size or less. Most concert venues now have quite strict bag size policies, as well as a list of items not permitted into the venue; this is for your safety. Don't bring along any items that might be considered a weapon, banners or flags, musical instruments, professional cameras or selfie sticks. 

7. Have something to eat before you leave home

Make sure you have a decent snack beforehand. There's some delicious food available at most concert venues in Perth but make sure you have something in your stomach to get you there and in case you have to wait in line a while to get some tasty food at the event. 

8. Keep hydrated

Make sure you drink some water. Most music concert venues offer free water, otherwise there will be plenty of bottled water for sale at beverage outlets. Make sure you've got some money with you to purchase water.

9. Stay close to you mates

Stay close to your friends and plan a meeting point for the end of the night if you happen to get split up. Have a buddy that you stick with for the whole night so you can keep an eye on each other, stay safe and have someone to enjoy the whole experience with!

10. Be a nice person, be safe and have fun

Have a good time and be considerate to others. Be respectful to the band or artist, as well as the staff who are there to help you, keep you safe and ensure you have a great time. Soak it all up and have an incredible time at your first concert.
